South Africa's mining minister slammed Amplats Tuesday, accusing the world's largest platinum firm of backtracking on social commitments and charged that it was executing "a complex form of hoarding of minerals (to) deprive the country of economic growth and workers of their livelihoods."
Minister Susan Shbangu, who said the government was not properly consulted by the firm, announced she "will subject the entire Anglo American portfolio of mining rights to regulatory scrutiny to ensure compliance to prescripts."
