ABN Productions will host the 'Water and Environmental Sustainability
Breakfast' at the Radisson Blu on 28 March 2013. The breakfast aims to
bring awareness to the supply and demand challenges facing the country
today.
According to the World Resources Institute, water quality and availability
have become matters of growing concern in South Africa. The yearly
renewable freshwater supply per capita currently stands at between 1
000 m³ and 1 700 m³, but this will likely shrink to less than 500 m³ by
2025.
The event will see speakers and representatives from organisations such as
'Cape Concentrate', the 'Department of Rural Development and Land Reform',
'Eskom' and 'Nedbank'.
Dr Steve Lennon who will be a guest speaker at the breakfast and is
currently the Group Executive of Eskom said that water is an essential
element of survival as well as a key determinant of economic development.
"Our challenge is to ensure that we are always able to keep ahead of the
water supply and demand equation so we do not benefit either at the
expense of the other. This means that we need to have effective and
comprehensive plans and implementation strategies, supported by an
energetic R&D programme to develop the water technologies of the future,"
said Lennon.
"The breakfast will be a sustainable industry focused discussion on the
shortage of water and sanitation supply in the continent and seeks to
combine the private sector, local government and investors,"said Zubaidah
Haniff, the Head of ABN Productions.
