Political parties in the Upper East Region have staged a peace match in the Bolgatanga Municipality. The march, held on Sunday, was to ensure peace in the forthcoming general elections.
The peace match, which was joined by civil society organizations, Women and Youth Groups, and the security agencies among others, saw the participants with placards, some of which read: ‘We are one Ghana, One Nation, One People’, ‘Let Stay in Peace after election’, ‘Our Children, Our Future’, ‘We Expect Free and Fair Elections’, ‘We say No to Violence’, ‘Ghana first’.
The occasion, which was jointly organized by the Regional Coordinating Council, the Upper East Regional Youth Association and other Civil Society Organizations, was characterized by peaceful messages from the various political party representatives including the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), the Conventions People’s Party, (CPP) the People National Convention (PNC), the Progressive People Party (PPP) among others.
Addressing the gathering after the match, Mr Albert Abongo, the Regional Minister, urged all stakeholders in the electoral process to avoid things that would throw the country into chaos and confusion.
Shifting to the three Northern Regions, he said the regions would be the most affected if the country was plunged into violence and appealed to the youth not to allow themselves to be engaged by any selfish politician to satisfy their personal gains.
