The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region said it had designed a monitoring strategy called “Operation Eagle Eye” to stop Togolese allegedly contracted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote in the impending general election.
Mr Peter Amewu, Regional Chairman of the Party at a press conference said: “We as law abiding citizens of Ghana will welcome genuine Ghanaians who are residing in Togo and would want to come and vote on 7 December to come to exercise their constitutional right.
“On the contrary, we want to send this message as a strong warning to those Togolese with such criminal motives that, Operation Eagle Eye will deal with them squarely…in accordance with the Law of the Land.”
He said it was “unfortunate” and constitutional for some people in the NDC to be “inciting” Togolese to come and vote in the country for the NDC and asked the Party to desist from that “ploy”.
Mr Amewu said the practice could trigger chaos and civil unrest and appealed to former President Jerry John Rawlings to intervene and stop the “malpractice”.
