The Loyal Ladies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a women’s group championing the ideas of the NPP on Sunday organised a free health screening exercise for residents of Maamobi and its surrounding communities.
Preceding the exercise was a “Kenkeyfest” which served hundreds of underprivileged persons with free balls of kenkey with fish to promote healthy eating habits.
The medical team who were members of the group offered free counseling services to residents and screened them for various ailments including hypertension, malaria, worm infestation and diabetes.
Ms. Lisa Anaman, the Head of the medical team in an interview with the press observed that due to the ‘high level of poverty’ among residents, most of them were unable to afford medical services to treat some minor ailments.
She called on philanthropists and stakeholders to help roll residents unto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to easily access medical care saying, “If these people were on the NHIS, I am sure they wouldn’t wait for their health conditions to escalate to the worst point so that we can have all our people safe and sound.”
She advised the people to practise personal hygiene and keep their surroundings clean to avoid contracting cholera the disease.
The President of the group, Perpetual Animwaa said the gesture formed part of their social responsibility to positively impact on the communities they operated within.
“We are passionate about supporting the vulnerable to ensure they lived comfortably and providing comfort and security for future generations,” she said.
She expressed gratitude to sponsors and volunteers for their contribution in making the programme a success.
Some beneficiaries of the exercise were delighted for receiving such help and prayed that other institutions support them to ease their plight.
