President John Dramani Mahama has extended the nation’s heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Cuba over the passing of former President, Fidel Castro Ruiz, last Saturday.
A statement issued by the Office of the President, said the enormous contribution of the late Cuban President to the liberation of the African continent from colonialism, demonstrated a leader, who was committed to promoting the continent’s interests.
The statement lauded former President Castro for an illustrious and extraordinary political career, which helped African states to commence their own developmental agenda.
“Throughout his extraordinarily long political career, President Castro combined intellect, boldness, dedication, audacity, vision and practical action resulting in the collapse of apartheid racist colonialism in southern part of Africa,” the statement stressed.
It exalted the former Cuban leader for his contribution to the development of education and healthcare delivery in his country and the African continent at large, after the collapse of apartheid and the introduction of democracy.
As a prime beneficiary of the late former president’s vision and practical action, President Mahama, in the statement, said Ghana would continue to celebrate the life of President Castro as one of its heroes.
