The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a parliamentary debate for the four aspiring parliamentary candidates in Oda Constituency. The candidates were from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Progressive People's Party (PPP) and the Convention People's Party (CPP).
The contestants were given the opportunity to tell the public their objectives when they come to power and also answer questions posed to them with the focus on education, health, agriculture and unemployment. Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo the NPP parliamentary candidate explained that, special skills training would be imparted by his Party to artisans to enable them excell in their various jobs. Also the one district one factory pledged by Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the flag bearer of the NPP would be provided.
Mr Nkansah Asare the NDC parliamentary candidate said, he would consider agriculture saying a framework and institutional basis for long term engagement and supplementary financing for the scaling up investment in agriculture development through the Ghana Agric Sector Investment Programme (GASIP) would be introduced by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the Birim Central Municipality to make farming more attractive.
Mr Baah Abora the parliamentary candidate for PPP said, there were opportunities in the district to engage the youth in industrious activities like palm oil extraction, fruits juice cannery among other things.Mr George Owusu Agyeman the parliamentary candidate for CPP said, he would upgrade clinics and hospitals in the Municipality.He explained that, there would be provision of equipment that could be used in surgery and other forms of operation and by so doing create jobs for nurses and doctors.
Madam Rejoice Biscoff, the Municipal Director of NCCE said she would use her position to help strengthen the pillars of democracy.
