The Volta Regional Early Warning and Response Group (REEWARG) has cautioned political parties in the Region against the singing of war songs on radio. The group, in a release signed by Reverend Monsignor Anthony Kornu, its Chairman, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said singing of war songs and casting insinuations on radio were recipes for chaos in the impending general election and charged the parties to desist from the practice.
The release also condemned statements by some political parties that their opponents could only win the December 7 polls by rigging and asked the parties to commit to peace and act peacefully in the electioneering. The release called for circumspection among religious leaders who were publicising claims of “divine” revelations on the outcome of the elections and described the act as “shameful”, “unscriptural” and “diabolic.”
It said the country’s laws did not permit any individual to physically prevent prospective voters from voting on Election Day and asked people nurturing such ideas to rethink. REEWARG is made up of the Regional Peace Council and representatives of identifiable public and private institutions and religious groupings with the task to develop and recommend response strategies to violent threats to the December 2016 general election.
