Mr Ayisi-Boateng, who was one of the first leading members to call for the suspension of the National Chairman, Mr Paul Afoko, and the General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Adjei Agyepong, urged them to take advantage of the acceptance speech of the President-elect and come home.

He said he believed that these two leading members of the party might have worked in their various private capacities behind the scenes in support of the party.

Mr Ayisi-Boateng spoke to the Daily Graphic after the NPP had chalked up a resounding victory in the just-ended general election and noted that judging from the posture and comments by the President-elect, he had set the tone for all prodigal sons and daughters to come back home.

“I know that Mr Afoko is still in court and that I would not go into the details of the issue” and had insisted that the structures and rules governing the party must be allowed to work devoid of interference.

He said and added that as usual with Nana Akufo-Addo, even in the heat of the Afoko-Kwabena Agyepong issue; he stayed off the voting to suspend the two.

He added that the “mess created by the incompetent and clueless John Mahama administration was enormous” but was not unsurmountable looking at the skills and competence of Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate to assemble the best brains to execute the NPP’s agenda.

Surprisingly, Mr Ayisi-Boateng quoted verbatim what Nana Akufo-Addo said during his acceptance speech as follows:

“…You have not elected me to serve one party, but to serve the entire nation. The President of Ghana is President for every single Ghanaian, without discrimination, malice or ill will to any ethnic group or political or religious affiliation. Whether you supported me or not, whether you campaigned for me or not, whether you voted for me or not…”

Mr Ayisi-Boateng said their suspension was not a total expulsion from the party; therefore, coming back should not be a big deal.

Destruction

He expressed grave concern over the incidence of attacks on party supporters from both sides and urged members of the NPP to restrain themselves from any provocations and toe the line of their President-elect who is law-abiding.

He said Nana Akufo-Addo set the tone when he urged all and sundry to be magnanimous in their celebration and allow the institutions to work when there was any provocation.

Seizure

Mr Ayisi-Boateng appealed to members of the party not to rush in claiming positions and seize facilities because the transition team would ensure that all such things belonging to the state were intact and not taken away.

He noted that those with information about people pillaging state resources and facilities should not hesitate to report them to the state authorities for the appropriate sanction.
