Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, an international anti-corruption and human rights campaigner has called on leadership of Parliament to suspend the work of the vetting committee with immediate effect.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani that the suspension was necessary because that would facilitate smooth conduct of investigations into the alleged bribery case leveled against some committee members
Mr Ahenu who is the Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Foundation, a media advocacy non-governmental organization regretted that the on-going claims, counter claims, allegations and counter allegations had over-shadowed the core duty of the vetting committee, hence the need to suspend its work.
He said the alleged bribery scandal had not only put the integrity of parliament into public ridicule, but had also exposed, dented and brought the image of the legislature into international disrepute.
Mr Ahenu was of the view that until the leadership of parliament delved into the allegations and shared the findings with the public, the confidence and trust most Ghanaians had in the legislature would remain at stake.
