Mr. Davis, a sole candidate, pulled 65 votes cast, representing 83 per cent with three rejected and one vote against him to emerge victorious.
The post of the Presiding Member of the assembly became vacant when President Nana
Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo invoked the appointment of government appointees of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

Mr. Davis, the elected assembly man for Anaji, who is known as “Anaji Mugabe”, has been in the assembly for more than 20 years.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked the house for the confidence reposed in him to lead the assembly in their meetings.

He said his election as the Presiding Member was not a licence to lord over the other members, but to lead the house in their deliberations to solve the challenges in the assembly.
Mr. Davis told the assembly members that their main challenge was to tackle seriously the issue of revenue generation and the insanitary state of the metropolis.

The Presiding Member said that the manner in which traders have taken over the streets and walk ways in the metropolis was an eye sore and needed immediate attention.
He said the city was a metropolis and things must be put right “because visitors would like to see a metropolis that is in the proper position and not in disorder.”

Mr. Davis mentioned the indiscipline in the city, citing parking at unauthorised places, building in water ways, siting of kiosks at wrong places, among others, within the metropolis, adding “we need to address all these acts of lawlessness in our community.”

He said the creation of filth, especially solid waste and dumping these waste anyhow would not be accepted, adding that “there is the need to wake up and fight seriously the way people dispose off waste in the city.”

Mr. Davis appealed to the technocrats and assembly members to cooperate for the smooth running of the assembly.

Alhaji Ishaq Asuru, the Metropolitan Coordinating Director who doubles as the acting Metropolitan Chief Executive, earlier welcomed the assembly members to the house and said the emergency general meeting was necessary because the government had nominated some people as government appointees to replace the old ones whose term of office had ended.
