Mrs Theodosia Jackson, a seasoned educationist has admonished women ministers to rise to the occasion and do their utmost best in the performance of their duties to prove that they had all it took to effectively handle the arduous tasks assigned them.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Kumasi on Wednesday, she doffed her cap to the Women Ministers for demonstrating intelligence and ingenuity that cruised them to victory in spite of the grueling moments they went through when they faced the appointments committee.
Mrs Jackson who is also the Principal of the Jackson’s Educational Complex in Kumasi lauded President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo - Addo for appointing the women ministers and urged him to do more saying “this demonstrated his conviction that women too had enormous leadership capabilities to impact society”.
She counseled them to be extra cautious in their work so as not to falter in any way.
“In a society still struggling to overcome gender stereotyping and prejudice, women appointed to high level governance positions should be aware that they were being watched by detractors who are only waiting to see them fail”, she advised.
Whiles cautioning the public against cynicism, she encouraged all and sundry to give the women the needed support to enable them deliver to optimum.The retired educationist called on Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba, the new Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, to work diligently to lift women out of poverty whiles also working on the speedy passage of Affirmative Action Bill to help promote gender equality and remove all forms of stereotypes and discrimination that still existed against women in the country.
Mrs Jackson said such gender discrimination was still prevalent in all spheres of the society questioning why “there should only be witches and not wizard camps as well” and said the fourth republic must advance past “such backward phenomenon”.
