A senior citizen and former Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church has rallied Ghanaians to show real determination to work together to salvage and put the nation on the path of progress.
The Right Reverend E.H. Brew Riverson said “the spirit of oneness” of the past should be brought back.
He added that “until we come to realize that all of us are part of the government and jointly responsible for the growth of the nation, we cannot make any meaningful socio-economic breakthrough”.
This was contained in a statement he issued in Kumasi, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Bishop Riverson called for combined effort to tackle the alarming degradation of the environment – the pollution of water bodies and destruction of the forest through illegal mining.
He also expressed upset about the selfishness, corruption and greed among the people and warned that if these evils continued unchecked, “we are never going to experience justice and orderliness in our national and local governance”.
“The days when monetary gain was the motivation for many to go into politics should end.”
He condemned what he termed “the lawlessness we see in our town and country planning arrangements that has destroyed the beauty of our cities – the distortions that have characterized many well laid-out places like Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale and Bolgatanga.
Bishop Riverson asked that there should be aggressive afforestation to restore the forests and the environment.
