The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the European Union through the Insider Mediators Project has presented office furniture and equipment worth GH¢220,000.00 to the National Peace Council.
The logistics include; laptops, desktop computers, projectors, office desk and chairs.
The support is part of efforts to strengthen the national and regional Peace Councils to deliver on its mandate of conflict prevention and mediation. Mr Louis Kuukpen, the UNDP Assistant Country Director, said the gesture was to facilitate the Council’s mandate to ensure peace and security in the country.
He pledged their continuous support to government to ensure there was peace in all spheres, saying there cannot be peace without development. He commended the Council for playing its role in the prevention of conflict and urged them to continue with their good work.
Mr Paolo Salvia, Head of Political Section of the EU Delegation in Ghana, recognised the work of the peace council for its decentralised scope of work across the country.Professor Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the Council, thanked the partners for their support and promised to make good use of the logistics in enhancing its work.
The Insider Mediators Project is a partnership between the EU and UNDP which spans three years aimed at strengthening the capacity of actors in the peace arena, which possess local knowledge of the conflict to bring their knowledge, experience and network to bear in transforming the conflict.
