The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has indicated it may have its upcoming constituency elections suspended in some constituencies.
The constituency elections of the party have been scheduled to begin Saturday, June 23, but the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has stated that there are still issues in some branches and constituencies, which may necessitate a suspension.
“There are other constituencies too where they have issues about qualification of contestants,” he stressed ahead of a closed-door meeting that would take a decision on the way forward.
Mr Nketia explained that suspension of elections in some constituencies may arise from the fact that some party branches had challenges with registration and the party couldn’t overlook that.
“There are still pockets of branches where the elections are yet to be held because of issues about the registration and other issues.
“In view of that the elections that are upcoming on Saturday, we may have to suspend the constituency elections with respect to certain constituencies because if the branches are not ready then it becomes difficult to move to the constituency,” Mr Nketia noted.
The party is expected to issue a statement after the closed-door meeting, detailing the roadmap of the upcoming constituency elections and matters arising. -3news.com
