Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has, for now, ruled out a total lockdown for the country saying it would leave people with no food.

But he said it would be the last resort if Kenyans fail to follow the directives issued to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

On Monday, he announced a ban on movement in and out of the capital, Nairobi, and three other coastal areas where coronavirus cases have been on the rise.

President Kenyatta, in his follow up interview on Tuesday morning, said the measures have been put in place to prevent a lockdown, asking if that was imposed: "what will people eat?".

The country has so far confirmed 158 coronavirus cases and six deaths.
