Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to fulfil his Election 2024 political campaign promises, to build a better nation.
He said the President was actively working hard to ensure that all his campaign promises were fulfilled, saying the government had made significant progress in the reset Ghana agenda to turn round prospects of the nation.
The Regional Minister said this when he paid a courtesy on the Dormaa Traditional Council at Dormaa-Ahenkro, as part of his familiarisation tour in the region.
Mr Akwaboa said the region would soon benefit from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) support, to construct classrooms and dormitories for Senior High Schools.
He said construction works on the establishment of a 24-hour market would also commence in the Dormaa Municipality soon.
Mr Akwaboa indicated that government interventions like the “No Stress Fees” policy, “Mahama Care” and the “Akoko Nkitiketin,” initiatives all sought to tackle emerging national challenges.
He said as a major poultry producing area, the “Akoko Nkitiketin” initiative would revitalise the Dormaa poultry sector and create more jobs for the locals, adding that several roads in the region had also been earmarked for construction under the “Big Push” infrastructure initiative.
Some of these roads include the 36-kilometer Alaska outer ring road in Sunyani, Sunyani-Ntotroso, Kyeremasu-Gambia and Dormaa-Nkrantwanta stretches.
Mr Akwaboa expressed concern about the illegal mining activities going on at Amasu, Aboabo, Dormaa-Akwamu, and Wamfie in the Municipality and called for collective efforts to tackle the menace.
He said: “We will not allow people to destroy our land through galamsey,” and pledged region’s commitment to support the Dormaa Traditional Council to stem the illegal mining activities in the area.
Mr Akwaboa urged the chiefs and queens in the area to allow the law to punish culprits, instead of intervening on their behalf.
Barima Twumasi Bekoe, the Twafohene (divisional chief) of the Dormaa Traditional Area expressed concern about the deplorable condition of the Dormaa-Aboabo and Gornokrom roads and called on the regional minister to intervene for the roads to be reshaped.
He also expressed concern about the growing illegal mining activities in the area and called on the regional minister to do more and bring the situation under control.
