Bawumia heads to Western Region as NPP flagbearer race intensifies

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is set to begin a tour of the Western Region today as part of his nationwide engagements ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The visit forms part of his ongoing grassroots mobilisation campaign, which has seen him traverse several regions in recent weeks to consolidate support among delegates and party stakeholders.

Dr Bawumia, known for his energetic and hands-on approach to campaigning, has already completed constituency-based tours of the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and Western North regions within the past month. His latest leg in the Western Region is expected to cover all 18 constituencies, where he will meet with executives, delegates, and opinion leaders at the constituency level.

On the opening day of the tour, the former Vice President is scheduled to visit Amenfi West, Amenfi East, and Amenfi Central constituencies to interact with party members and share his vision for the future of the NPP and the country.

Sources close to the campaign say Dr Bawumia will use the Western Region engagements to highlight his record in public service and his plans to lead a united and forward-looking party into the 2028 general elections.

His campaign has so far focused on grassroots unity, digital transformation, economic revival, and inclusivity, themes that continue to resonate with many within the party base.

Dr Bawumia is one of five aspirants vying to lead the NPP into the next election. The others are Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
