The 14 districts within the Western Region are all participating in the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative (CoST) project assurance survey.
The Assurance Survey, also called Independent Review Process, would assess how infrastructural development within the districts used both proactive and reactive disclosures to make information on projects to the public for accountability, participation and Transparency.
Mr. Isaac Aidoo, CoST Sekondi-Takoradi Manager said CoST assurance process started with only STMA and the Regional Coordinating Council after which eight Assemblies were added.
The milestone of covering all 14 districts, attest to the commitment of CoST Sekondi-Takoradi to improve accountability and ensure that citizens had better Infrastructure that enhanced economic development.
Mr Aziz Mahmoud, CoST Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Secretariat said Ghana’s legal framework supported disclosure.
He said: “the compatibility of the legal framework on disclosure with Cost’s formal disclosure requirement at the Sub-national level are critical to deepen the governance process and deal with the crisis of trust that always characterise government projects”.
Mr Eugene Ofori-Atta, the Chairman of the Multi-Stakeholder Group in an address read for him, said the use of data standards could help to mitigate early risks of corruption.
He said, through the disclosure process, the lead team identifies key issues of concern, gaps in the data and areas of good practice.
That, he noted allowed social accountability stakeholders to easily understand, the main issues associated with the project and act as a basis for reform or holding decision makers accountable.
