The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has described the decision to uphold 1,201 public sector appointments made under former President Nana Akufo-Addo as a vindication of the previous administration, while raising concerns over the 541 appointments that were revoked.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, February 3, Mr Darko welcomed the outcome of the review but challenged the government to justify why a portion of the appointments failed to meet the required threshold.

“To a large extent, I can say that we have been vindicated, but that is not all. They say 541 appointments should remain revoked because they did not meet the threshold, but we will need to see those particular appointments and why, in the view of the government, they do not meet the threshold,” he stated.

He further demanded clarity on the specific procedural breaches cited by authorities. “When you say it didn’t go through the right procedures, what exactly do you mean? Tell us which part of the law the appointments violated,” he added.

The remarks follow a review of public sector recruitments conducted after the December 7, 2024, general elections. A Special Committee set up by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, examined appointments made during the transition period.

The committee upheld 1,201 of the appointments and revoked 541. The review was initiated after an earlier decision to cancel 2,080 appointments over concerns that established civil service recruitment procedures may have been bypassed during the transition.
