The President, Council and entire membership of the Chartered Institute of Taxation Ghana (CITG) on Wednesday commended President John Dramani Mahama for nominating Mr Seth Terkper, a fellow of the Institute, as Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Micheal Kofi Afflu, President, FCIT, and copied to Ghana News Agency said Mr Terkper has in-depth knowledge in Public Administration both by training from Harvard University and by experience.
"CITG is of the view that beside the knowledge base, he also has the requisite experience, having served in various capacities such as deputy Commissioner of the VAT Service, a Senior Economist with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) specifically on Tax Administration, and the four years as a Deputy Minister of Finance.
"CITG believes that Hon. Seth Terkper perfectly fits the profile of the position of Minister of Finance, as a Finance person, an Economist, a Tax Expert, and an astute politician, which we believe is key to improving upon government revenue mobilization and managing the economy," it added.
The statement said in the wake of the global attendant effects of the economic down, the role of effective revenue mobilization to sustainable national development cannot be underestimated and it was for those reasons and many more that the CITG believed that Mr Terkper is the man for the job, and President Mahama, could not have made a better choice.
