India, with its impressive growth story in the past six decades, has become the envy of the world, Britain's first Asian judge Sir Mota Singh has said attributing the achievement to the spirit of resilience of Indians.
Speaking at a function organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan UK in connection with India's Diamond Jubilee Republic Day Celebration, Sir Mota Singh said, "In 60 years India has become the envy of the world."
"It is a tribute to the capacity of India's political leaders and the spirit of resilience of Indians who live in a multi-cultural, multi-religious country," Singh added.
India's High Commissioner to the UK Nalin Surie said,"We should be justifiably proud of our achievements while equally aware that much more needs to be done."
"We look at the future with confidence," Surie said. Maneck Dalal, Chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan UK said, "India has made giant strides during the last 60 years and there are more university graduates in India now than the entire population of the UK."
UK has a population of just over 61 million.
Lord Navnik Dholakia, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords; Lord Bagri and Joginder Sanger, NRI Hotelier, also attended the function.
