India Wednesday sought cessation of all hostilities in Libya and supported the African Union's (AU) efforts to find a peaceful solution to the civil war.
"This (Libyan crisis) is a subject which figured in our deliberation...We appreciate the lead taken by the African Union. We endorse the stand of the African Union on the situation in Libya," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told reporters here after co-chairing the second India-Africa summit.
The Addis Ababa Declaration adopted at the end of the Summit here also talked about the Libyan crisis.
"We take note of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1970, 1973 on Libya and stress that efforts to implement them should be within the spirit and the letter of the resolutions," the joint declaration read.
It added, "In this regard, we call for immediate cessation of all hostilities in Libya and urge the parties in the conflict to strive towards a political solution through peaceful means and dialogue.
"We express support for the African Union High Level ad-hoc Committee initiative and the African Union roadmap for the peaceful and consensual resolution of the conflict."
Earlier, the AU had led a delegation to Libya and discussed its peace plan involving a ceasefire and negotiations between the Libyan regime and the Benghazi-based rebels. The Libyan government had welcomed the peace initiative but the anti-Gaddafi forces had rejected it.
