The Right Reverend Dr Cyril Kobinah Ben-Smith, Suffragan Bishop of Asante-Mampong, has urged politicians to ensure some level of decency in their conduct and avoid intemperate language.
This was important to the growth and development of the country’s multi-party democracy.
He said peddling palpable lies about their opponents and mudslinging just for political convenience could only stoke needless tension and confusion.
Rev Dr Ben-Smith was speaking at an induction service held for him at the Saint Michael and All Angels Anglican Church at Asante-Mampong.
The newly created Suffragan Area covers Asante-Mampong Archdeaconry, the Kumawu Archdeaconry, excluding the Fumesua, Kwamo, Ejisu and Bonwire Churches.
It was under the theme: “The Great Commission”.
Rev Dr Ben-Smith called on Christians to lead unblemished lives in order to become good examples to society.
They should uphold the values of humility, modesty, love, integrity and accept to live in total peace and harmony with all.
Additionally, they must be obedient to the word of God and work hard to win more converts into Christianity.
Right Reverend Dr Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Angican Bishop of Kumasi, performed the induction ceremony and said the rapid growth of the Diocese made it expedient for the creation of the Suffragan Area.
He said he was confident that with this the church’s evangelism and the spread of the Gospel would be intensified.
He advised the church leaders and members to support and cooperate with the new Bishop “to take Christ to the door step of people.”
Bishop Dr Ben-Smith was a former Dean of the Saint Nicholas Theological Seminary in Cape Coast.
