Egypt's military rulers rejected on Wednesday the resignation of Yehia al-Gamal, Deputy Prime Minister of the Egyptian caretaker government, state MENA news agency reported.
Gamal said in a statement that he submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, who accepted it in responding to his pressure.
But Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) that is ruling the country in the transitional period, rejected the resignation, saying "the current time requires sacrifice from all for the good of the nation."
Gamal agreed to resume his work appreciating the SCAF's trust in his capabilities.
He was appointed as deputy to Ahmed Shafik government days after the former president Hosni Mubarak resigned on Feb.11.
Gamal stayed in the same post in the current caretaker cabinet appointed in March, which will operate till the presidential elections and pave the way for a well-established civil government.
