Wales Women go into their final Euro 2017 qualifier against Austria with their eyes fixed on the future.
Unable to qualify, it is the World Cup in France in 2019 which Jane Ludlow's players are focusing on with qualification due to start next year.
And the exploits of Chris Coleman's men in France this summer is providing hope for their female counterparts.
"We are going to take massive inspiration from what the men achieved," said winger Natasha Harding.
"They had so much encouragement from back home and everyone was behind them. We want to be there as well, we want to replicate that.
"We'll take what positives we can from this campaign, we'll go into this last game pretty confident and hopefully we can then get to France."
Austria arrive in Newport knowing they have already secured at least a play-off spot for next summer's tournament in the Netherlands, while for Wales the clash is all about pride.
Plenty of that was restored last week when they saw off Israel 3-0 at Rodney Parade, and now they are seeking to end the current campaign on a high.
Wales were thankful to a brace from all-time leading scorer, Helen Ward, against the Israelis, but it is also a period of transition for the national side.
Manager Ludlow is trying to bring through a clutch of younger Welsh talent as the women seek to ensure qualification for a major tournament for the first time.
And it is their next opponents, Austria, a nation who have surged up to 25th place in the Fifa world rankings, who Ludlow believes can act as a template for Wales in the future.
"It will be a very different challenge against Austria than it was against Israel," said Ludlow.
"The Austrians are still fighting to top the group and have had a fantastic last two years. They won the Cyprus Cup and they have jumped up the rankings.
"They are a very organised outfit. It's going to be different, but it is a challenge we can overcome and one we are looking forward to.
"Austria are a side we can look to for inspiration, they are winning games and being successful and that is what we want for our group moving forward."
