The Ghana forward bagged his first goal for his new club Newcastle United
Christian Atsu scored the only goal of the game as Newcastle United dispatched Rotherham 1-0 in the Championship on Saturday.
The Ghana international—currently on loan with the Magpies from Chelsea—was picked out by Jonjo Shelvey in the right-hand channel and cut inside before sending a delicious shot past Rotherham stopper Lee Camp in the 41st minute.
It was the only goal of a contest that Newcastle dominated, enjoying over 60 percent possession and taking 20 shots—twice as many as their hosts.
While Rafael Benitez’s side weren’t able to add to Atsu’s opener, they had enough to see out the contest.
The Ghanaian was a lively presence on the right side of a 4-5-1 formation before being replaced by Matt Ritchie in the 67th minute.
He completed two dribbles, managed an 80 percent pass success rate and executed three key passes.
The win takes Newcastle up to second in the Championship on 22 points, three behind leaders Huddersfield Town.
Rotherham, by contrast, remain rooted to the foot of the table.
