Pep Guardiola backed Claudio Bravo after the Manchester City keeper was given ironic applause by home fans in the 5-1 FA Cup victory over Huddersfield Town.
The Chilean international, who has been replaced by Willy Caballero for City's past three Premier League games, appeared to be at fault for Harry Bunn's seventh-minute strike that went through him.
Bravo, who has conceded nine goals from the last 14 shots on target, made a save shortly after that prompted sarcastic cheers from the home supporters.
Guardiola didn't look pleased with the fans' reaction and told a news conference that he was delighted with the former Barcelona keeper's performance.
"Ask the fans, please. The performance from Claudio was amazing," Guardiola said. "He helped us in the build-up and reads which men are free. He gives us the continuity to play.
"I'm not here to judge the fans. He's strong enough. He's one of the best. This year he was nominated as one of the top five goalkeepers in the world.
"The people cannot imagine how good a goalkeeper [he] is. I am delighted with him. I know I can count on him, with his behaviour when he is playing and now when he is not playing.
"I just congratulated him on how he played at Huddersfield and how he played today. I'm pretty sure he's coming back."
City responded from the early setback with three goals before half-time from Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta. Aguero added a second in the 74th minute before he was replaced by Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored the final goal with virtually the last kick of the game.
Aguero took his tally to 22 for the season and Guardiola was delighted with the Argentine's contribution.
"It's the best performance I've ever seen from Aguero," Guardiola added. "He's good with the ball. He doesn't miss the balls in the box.
"He scored twice and created lots of chances. When he plays at that level he is unstoppable. I'm pretty sure he's going to help us to keep going until the end of the season."
City are now into the quarterfinals and will face Middlesbrough away, with Guardiola happy to have overcome a Huddersfield side that impressed him.
"We are so happy to be in the quarterfinals. I know how complicated the competition is, when you face teams in in the Championship," he said. "Now we are one step away [from Wembley]. We are so so lucky in the draw, not one home game!"
