Mr. Abdul Hay Yartey has been re-elected as the president of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA), for a four year term.
Mr. Yartey went unopposed in an election held in Accra on Wednesday, February 20.
Mr. Charles Owusu-Ansah pulled nine votes to beat Mr. Samuel Agyei, who had two votes, to win the position of vice president, with Mr. Vincent Peace Edward maintaining his position as the Head of the technical team, whilst Mr. George Foster Baffour won the position of the Treasurer.
Mr Yartey, thanked the newly elected executives and the GBFA for his re-election adding that, it would be his last term in office, after working since 2004 to raise the image of an Association, which does not get any support from government.
“This would be my last term in office after fighting for this Association since 2004, we have worked hard to get this federation here, but it’s important I give others the opportunity to also come and give out their best, it has been very challenging, yet very successful with the help from my hardworking executives.”
Yartey, who is the president and bankroller for Cheetah FC urged the newly elected executives to give off their best and maintain the standard they have attained throughout the years and cautioned them of the responsibility of building the next generation of bodybuilders and healthy athletes for Ghana.
“In 2010 when I was elected president, we had no body building competition, we had to fight to separate GBFA from weightlifting and through the hard work of these executives and we gained independence eventually.
“Through the hard work, we have over the past ten years produced a lot of champions locally and internationally. They have competed in events like the Arnold classics, which a Ghanaian won the last edition.
“We have been able to transform the image of body building and fitness to higher heights and would help move on further to raise more professionals in the industry and to assist athletes develop well” he added.
