Yaw Acheampong, a former member of the senior national team, the Black Stars, has said the team has enough quality to win their second group game of the ongoing 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) against defending champions Cameroon on Saturday.
The Black Stars have a tougher test after failing to pick all three points in their opening group game against Benin.
The team drew 2-2 in an underwhelming performance in the opening game against the Squirrels of Benin and would have to improve if they have hope of gaining any positive results.
In Ghana’s opening match against Benin, the Black Stars really were their own worst enemy.
A sloppy bit of play saw the Stars go down two minutes in and then after battling back to take a 2-1 lead through Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew, John Boye received a red card, and they couldn't hold on for the win.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on the on hand leads the table after posting a comfortable 2-0 win in their opening fixture against Guinea Bissau and will be hoping to record back to back group stage victories when they take on Ghana in the second round of group fixtures.
In an interview with the GNA Sports, the coach of Elmina Sharks said he was confident that Ghana could pull strings to offset the odds on Saturday evening.
“I saw them (Cameroon), they are not that aggressive. Tactically they are very good. They have the European style of play - they start a slow build up and give long passes because they have fast runners and good strikers upfront.
“We also have to strategize because they are too open and we have good players who can terrorize them and the let them make a lot of mistakes. They have a good goalkeeper as well, but for Ghana, it’s all about planning,” the two time AFCON participant said.
