The 2025 edition of the Duamenefa Regional Tournament (DRT) is set to kick off with renewed energy, fresh leadership and a bold vision to promote peace, unity and youth development through sports.
Organised by the Duamenefa Foundation, the tournament has, over the years, earned a strong reputation for blending sportsmanship with community development.
This year’s edition is expected to attract 61 football clubs, six volleyball teams and six Tug of Peace teams from across the Volta Region and beyond, all competing in various disciplines — with football remaining at the heart of the competition.
The tournament’s principal sponsor, the Tanko Foundation, led by Tanko Kwamegah Atokple, has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment.
According to Mr Tanko, his foundation aims to do “even greater things than before” to improve the standard of living for young people across communities, through strategic development initiatives and support for grassroots sports.
Evangelist Ketaman Evortepe, CEO of the Duamenefa Foundation, commended the tournament committee for their hard work and dedication. He extended warm congratulations to all registered teams and urged them to exhibit good conduct throughout the tournament.
“We call on every team and community to play their part in ensuring a peaceful and incident-free event. "Let us support our teams with dignity and create an atmosphere of unity and celebration at every match venue,” he stated.
In a recent official announcement, the management of the Duamenefa Regional Tournament (DRT) confirmed the appointment of Mr Logic Gbeku as the new Secretary, with Mr Francis Veldro as his Deputy Secretary. They succeeded Mr Gilbert Gbittor, who resigned on May 18, 2025.
Meanwhile, Patrick Doamekpor, Director of Sports for DRT, expressed confidence in the new leadership:
“We believe Mr Gbeku and Mr Veldro will bring the dedication and administrative strength needed to take the tournament to greater heights. We appreciate Mr Gbittor’s service and wish the new executives success in their roles.”
