Bristol City goalkeeper Max O'Leary faces three to four months on the sidelines following surgery on his ankle.

The 28-year-old played every minute of every Championship match for the Robins for the past two seasons.

Full-back Luke McNally has also suffered a "minor setback" in his recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament injury that has kept him out since February, a club statement said.

Left-back Cam Pring also sustained an ankle injury during the pre-season training camp in Portugal, which concluded last week, and is due to be assessed on return to Bristol.

Midfielder Joe Williams - who went off during the play-off semi-final first leg defeat by Sheffield United in May with an ankle ligament injury - and Max Bird are both "hopeful" of being available for the start of the season.

City begin their Championship campaign away at the Blades on Saturday, 9 August at 17:30 BST.
