Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has assured the club’s fans of their determination to qualify for the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup despite a nervy first-leg performance.
The Porcupine Warriors edged Kwara United of Nigeria 4-3 in a thrilling preliminary round encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.
However, the concession of three goals at home has left many fans doubtful about the team’s ability to survive the return leg in Nigeria this weekend.
Amoah, who played a key role in Kotoko’s victory, sought to allay those fears in a post-match interview.
“We’re not giving up. We are going there to qualify,” he said, adding, “Just as the Nigerians scored three goals here, we are also capable of doing the same away.”
The Head Coach, Abdul Karim Zito, echoed the striker’s optimism, stressing that Kotoko would return stronger for the decisive second leg.
He admitted that defensive lapses—particularly from players making their continental debut—were costly, but vowed to correct those mistakes ahead of the return leg.
“I never believed Kwara United could score three goals in Accra, so I also believe we can go there and pull off a surprise,” the coach declared.
“We will restrategise to make sure the second leg fetches us the goals we need,” Zito stated.
