The Teshie McDan Park will be the site of a thrilling clash tomorrow as arch-rivals Teshie Oldies and Nungua Oldies lock horns in a week 12 clash of the ongoing Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG) Oldies League.
Tagged as one of the league’s ‘El Clásicos,’ the match is fueled by a deep-seated sociocultural history between the adjacent twin towns, and is expected to draw indigenes from both communities eager to rally support for their respective sides.
Tomorrow’s clash carries even greater significance than the three points at stake, as pride and bragging rights will be paramount.
While the Teshie lads aim to climb the standings and restore faith among their fan base, the Nungua lads, languishing at the bottom of the 9-team Zone A standings with two points, will be fighting to redeem themselves from the first-leg 3-0 thrashing suffered at the Nungua Town Park.
In other Zone A games, Tema Ex-Footballers will travel to the Tema Community 2 Mexico Park to play as guests of Comm 2 Ex-Footballers, while Veterans K.F.C. will slug it out with Ashaiman Oldies at the Oninku Drive School Park. Nungua Town Park will host the Nungua Veterans versus Nii Laryea Oldies game.
Zone B leaders, La Salem Oldies, will look to extend their three-point lead when they face Rangoon Oldies at the McDan La Town Park on Saturday. Osu Tenashie Oldies will host La Emmause at the Osu Ako-Adjei Park. Adabraka/Asylum Down Oldies take on La Old Stars at the ATTC Park. Osu Salem Oldies and Accra East Oldies will face off at the Osu Salem Park, while Dansoman Tony Oldies take on Scarp Rangers at the Dansoman Tony Park on Sunday.
Runaway Zone C leaders, Nima Oldies, will take on second-placed Adenta Oldies at the Kaokudi Park, as the latter seek to close the six-point gap. Madina Oldies will host Ayawaso K.F.C. at the Madina Estate Park. Kotobabi Oldies will face Okaikwei Oldies at the Alajo Park, while Achimota Oldies engage Abokobi Oldies at the Abofu Park in Achimota.
Second-placed team in Zone D, Awoshie Oldies, will welcome Accra Old Stars to the Auntie-Aku Park. Ablekuma South will face Nima First Oldies at the Indafa Park, while Ablekuma Central Oldies play Nii Sabaah Oldies at the Town Council Line Park on Sunday.
Zone D leaders, S.C.C. Oldies, will host Ashiedu Keteke Oldies at the Moses Arthur Park in Weija on the same day.
