The finest of Ghana’s sports administrators and athletes will converge on the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday when the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) holds its Golden Jubilee edition of the awards.

Among the tall guest list for the historic event is President John Dramani Mahama and the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah.
They will also be joined by other high-profile personalities including Mr Gianni Merlo, President of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
The General Secretary of the association, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, confirmed to The Times Sports yesterday that this year’s event would also recognise a number of sports oldies who contributed to carving Ghana’s beautiful sports history.
Among this category of former sports actors classified as 50th Anniversary Ambassadors include Margaret Simpson (Athletics), Azumah Nelson (Boxing), Abedi Ayew Pele (Football), Michael Essien (Football), Kwadwo Asamoah (Football), Stephen Appiah (Football), Samuel Osei Kufour (Football), Adwoa Bayor, and Alberta Sackey (Football).
He said Saturday’s event would not shy away from its yearly ritual, as various performers cutting across the various sports federations, coaches, and administrators would all mount the podium for recognition in their respective fields.
