An urgent cabinet meeting following the African National Congress (ANC)'s recall of South African President Thabo Mbeki started at 4 p.m. (1400 GMT) in Pretoria on Sunday, a government spokesman said.
"They will discuss the current developments," said spokesman Themba Maseko"Unfortunately I cannot tell you what is on the agenda."
Maseko said Mbeki and all his Cabinet ministers who were presently in South Africa would attend Sunday's meeting.
He had not heard if any Cabinet ministers had resigned, following Saturday's announcement by the ANC that they had "recalled Mbeki" and Mbeki's subsequent statement that he would oblige once all constitutional requirements had been met.
Mbeki was recalled by the ANC National Executive Committee on Saturday at a meeting which is expected to wrap up on Sunday.
A spokesman for Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said she would make an official announcement on her future "in due course".
In terms of the Constitution, Mlambo-Ngcuka should become president if a vacancy arises.
