The 96th session of the Indian Science Congress to be held in Shillong in the eastern Indian state of Meghalaya from January 3 next year, offers scope for
discussion on local action for stimulating science education and seeking excellence in research.
"It also plans discussion on technology and societal responses to the global concerns on climate change," a spokesman of the Indian Science Congress here said.
The 5-day session, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), aims at preparing the Association for its journey to the centenary period for the premier body of scientists.
It will be for the first time that the Science
Congress will be held in the North-East. With its focal theme "Science Education and Attraction of Talent for Excellence in Research", the Science
Congress session will focus on action for meeting the dreams of the future India.
Nearly 250 top Indian and foreign scientists have
already confirmed their participation at the session.
"We are expecting some Nobel laureates to attend the session," the spokesman said.
Besides dwelling on the Industry-Science partnership, the session will gather best of minds from Industry,Scientific fraternity, policy makers and academia together on a common platform to ponder over issues of national
importance.
