U.S. President-elect Barack Obama pledged on Monday to make every effort to eliminate the threat of terrorism after he is sworn in as president in January next year.
"We cannot tolerate a world where innocents are being killed by extremists," Obama said at a news conference in Chicago.
"We have to bring the full force of our power, not only military but diplomatic and political, to deal with the threats."
Speaking of Mumbai terror attacks in which more than 195 people were killed, including six Americans, Obama said that he had discussion by telephone with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, stressing "Americans stand with the people of India in this dark time. I'm confident they're more resilient than the killers who would tear it down."
