Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Wednesday appealed to supporters of the party to remain calm in the face of provocation from opposition parties during and after Sunday's general elections.
He said the NPP would surely win the polls with majority seats in parliament therefore nothing should be done for anybody to doubt such victory.
Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing a rally at the Akim-Oda Methodist Park to run off the Eastern Regional campaign.
He said one of his major priorities was to turn the country into an industrialized nation which every Ghanaian would be proud of.
Nana Akufo-Addo cautioned Ghanaians not to vote for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), "because they have nothing good to offer than to return the country into the days of culture of silence, identification hair cut, and other atrocities meted to Ghanaians during the PNDC/NDC time".
He said Ghanaians should not put the destiny of the country into the hands of the NDC because President Kufuor had laid a solid foundation for economic prosperity.
"What the NDC seeks when it regains power is to damage the good policies put in place by President Kufuor and the NPP by destroying the free education system, National Health Insurance, Capitation Grant and other economic gains attained within the last seven and half years," he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo said he did not enter the presidential race for personal gains but to seek the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.
"I did not enter politics for my stomach but to dedicate my self for the service of the nation because I am not a hungry man, I know how to earn my genuine money," he said.
Nana Akufo-Addo paid tribute to President Kufuor for his dedication and selfless leadership over the last seven years, which had seen the country moving from one stage to another in economic prosperity.
President Kufuor who was the guest of honour at the rally said Sunday polls was an election for the fate of the future generation and therefore urged the youth to educate their parents on the need to vote for the NPP.
According to President Kufuor, Nana Akufo-Addo was the best person to succeed him, and cautioned Ghanaians to be careful of politicians with sweet tongue who had nothing good to offer.
Other speakers at the rally included Mr Alan Kyeremanteng, former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben North, Mr Okerchiri Adusa, MP for Nkawkaw, the National Chairman of the party, Mr Peter Mac Manu and other leading members of the party.
