Hundreds of supporters and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Effutu Constituency on Sunday went on a brass band procession, through some principal streets in Winneba.
This was to celebrate their victory in the election and also to thank the electorate for voting the party into power.
Among the dignitaries who participated in the procession were the first Vice-Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, MP for Effutu and Minister designate for Transport, Mr Mike Hammah, and the Head of the Executive Asset of the Transition Team, Dr Don Arthur and Dr Ebenezer Ayerebi-Acquah, a former Central Regional Minister.
Addressing the gathering later at the Liberation Square, Mr Mike Hammah thanked God and the electorate for comporting themselves for peaceful elections and smooth transition of power.
He reminded the people that his election as MP was not only for the NDC, but also for all people from the political divide.
He pledged to establish an Education Endowment Fund from his share of the Common Fund to advance the cause of education in the constituency.
Mr Hammah also promised to contribute towards reviving the Pomadze factory to serve as an employment hub in the Central Region.
He said efforts will be made to assist one football team in Winneba to the premier level as his contribution towards the promotion of football in the area.
Alhaji Huudu Yahaya conveyed the congratulations of President Atta Mills and Vice-President John Mahama to the people of Effutu and urged them to forge ahead in unity to accelerate the pace of development.
He appealed to officials at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) offices to serve the people well and stop denying people of medical attention.
Alhaji Huudu Yahaya said President Atta Mills will appoint competent and approachable Ministers who will listen to the people, and therefore advised Ghanaians to give the President time.
According to him, the NDC government will not enter into negotiations with foreigners to fish in the deep sea to the disadvantage of local fishermen.
