Constituency Chairmen of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), in the Ashanti Region, have denied knowledge of a media report alleging that the party's Regional Chairman, Mr S.K. Danso, has been dismissed.
They said it was not true that they had appended their signatories to any document that sought to pass a vote of no confidence in the chairman.
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Monday, Mr Johnson Kwakye, spokesperson for the Constituency Chairmen Association of the CPP, stated that since the issue bothered on criminality, they were collaborating with the regional secretariat to investigate those behind the purported dismissal of the chairman.
The report which came out at the weekend suggested that Mr Danso's post had been taken away from him by the 39 constituency chairmen for being inactive and also for embezzling some party funds meant for its activities.
Mr Kwakye described it as false and an attempt to divide the rank and file of the party and called on well-meaning supporters of the CPP to ignore such speculations.
"To the best of our knowledge, Mr Danso still remains the Regional Chairman of the CPP and we have confidence in him to manage the affairs of the party in Ashanti," he said.
Mr Daniel Essien, the Regional Secretary of the party, advised party members to desist from practices and utterances that had the potential to weaken the party's support base.
He said divisions in the party had in the past impacted negatively on the party's overall ambition of winning political power and called on the Central Steering Committee of the party to investigate the issue and apply the necessary sanctions to the perpetrators if found.
