Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has extended an invitation for his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama to visit Indonesia through U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, a presidential spokesman said Thursday.
Presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said after a 45-minute meeting between Yudhoyono and Clinton, Yudhoyono has again invited Obama to visit the country, where the later spent four years as a child.
"The president has extended the invitation through the Secretary of State. The official invitation was already extended through a phone call with President Obama in December," he said.
Dino said Yudhoyono was hoping that Obama would be able to make the visit before the APEC Summit in Singapore by the end of the year.
Clinton who was on a two-day visit in Indonesia came to the presidential office with a large group of U.S. security officers, State Department officials, U.S. embassy staff and a number of U.S. journalists.
She has left Jakarta for South Korea to continue her Asian tour.
