President of the Republic of Congo's Election Committee Henri Bouka said Saturday that preparations work is all ready for the Sunday presidential election, and the election will be fair and transparent one.
Speaking to a press conference held on the eve of the election, Bouka said some two million voters have been registered, and all the polling stations are ready for voters. Talking about security, he said the government has made arrangements for the voting to proceed peacefully.
Several opposition candidates had called on voters to boycott the voting. At the press conference, Bouka urged all registered voters to cast their votes. He said a fair election is the triumph of democracy and voting is the legal right of citizens.
Incumbent President Denis Sassou-Nguesso is seeking re- election in the Sunday vote. Thousands of Sassou's supporters gathered in the capital Brazzaville on Friday to demonstrate support for him.
