The weekly cabinet meeting Tuesday did notmake any decision if the Internal Security Act (ISA) should be imposed in a northern province of Chiang Mai, where the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is going to visit.
The government will assess additional reports concerning the situation in Chiang Mai from security authorities, prior to making the final decision, Thai News Agency reported.
Prior to attending the cabinet meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, in charge of security affairs, said the cabinet meeting would consider imposing the ISA law in Chiang Mai to ensure security during a visit of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva from Nov. 27 to 29.
Abhisit plans to visit Chiang Mai in a bid to attend a meeting of the Thai Chamber of
Commerce, which will be hosted on there.
The ISA law might be needed to ensure security for Abhisit since a huge number of the anti-government or red-shirted people in Chiang Mai and nearby provinces have vowed to protest in Chiang Mai against his visit.
