Madam Elle Margrethe Loj, the special representative of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and who is heading the UN Mission in Liberia, said on Tuesday that she is gravely worried over the political crisis in Guinea.
Speaking to reporters, Loj said she is also worried about the uncertainty that has
engulfed the nation, fearing what could happen next in that country in such a situation.
The special representative said Liberia, a neighbouring state of Guinea, fears that what is
happening in Guinea could have a spillover into Liberia, thereby retarding the progress and
significant gains made in the restoration of peace in Liberia.
She said as a result of the deteriorating security situation in Guinea, the UN mission in
Liberia has taken all precautionary measures by increasing patrols along the border, stressing
that the border areas are calm and people are going about their normal business.
Loj said soldiers of the UN mission and the Guinean authorities are cooperating and the UN mission is vigilant for unusual occurrences.
She warned Liberians to keep out of the political crisis in Guinea, hoping that Guineans,
too, will keep out of getting involved in any problems disturbing Liberia's peace.
Loj further expressed the hope that the situation in Guinea will not deteriorate further.
