Wendy Sherman, United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, said Ghana has a proud history of conducting elections in Africa and the World and that Ghana was an example for other African countries to emulate.
She said the US would continue to work with countries that accentuate the intent to continue to work on the three pillars of Bilateral relationship which was economic growth and development, democracy and human rights and regional peace and security.
Under Secretary Sherman made this known at a press briefing in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday which was monitored through a telephone conference by the Ghana News Agency at the US Embassy in Accra.
She said the United States would continue to support countries that were advancing regional security and promoting strong democratic institutions.
Under Secretary Sherman will tour seven African countries which includes South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, Somalia, Kenya, D.R. Congo
She is the highest ranking U.S. official to visit Somalia in more than twenty years, and her visit underscored the U.S. Government's commitment to Somalia's stabilization efforts.
Under Secretary Sherman urged the African leadership to continue to consolidate gains by helping local governance structures emerge through community dialogue and reconciliation.
