Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi said Wednesday that the country's referendum on a new constitution was held with total "transparency and under the full supervision of civil society and the judiciary."
"I salute the Supreme Electoral Commission which performed its role to the fullest," Morsi said in a televised address to the Egyptian people after signing the new charter into law.
The constitution was approved by 63.8 per cent of the votes cast in a two-round referendum held this month, according to official results announced Tuesday.
