Italy's consumer price index (CPI) inched up to an annual rate of 1.2 percent in August, compared to 1.1 percent the previous month, according to final data from statistics agency Istat. The CPI also rose, by 0.3 percent, between July and August, driven by increases in fuel and transport prices.
Core inflation, which excludes fresh food and energy prices, also climbed to an annual rate of 1.4 percent in August compared to 1.2 percent the previous month.
The Italian harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) was up 1.1 percent on an annual basis compared to 0.8 percent in July, said Istat.
