Role Overview
The School Director (SD) role is the most senior position in a private family-owned school and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The school is a reputable international school with a strong Christian ethos. It is based in Accra and offers Pre-school to Secondary education. Experience with leading a dynamic profitable SME with a large multidisciplinary team is essential. Experience in the education sector is preferred.
Position Description
The School Director is ultimately responsible for implementing the vision and strategic plans of the school and providing leadership in all aspects of the school. In partnership with the School Leadership Team, the SD is expected to oversee the development and delivery of the school’s programs in line with its philosophy and mission. The SD is also in charge of overseeing the school’s business operations, financial efficiency and ensuring adherence to all school policies and procedures both in and out of the classroom. The SD will be the ultimate face of the school amongst students, staff, parents and external bodies.
Essential Responsibilities:
The School Director leads and coordinates the administrative and educational activities of the school. Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Vision and Strategy
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure that a clear vision and strategy is drawn up periodically, communicated to the employees and clients and implemented effectively.
Ultimately responsible for the overall success of the school providing the school community with educational leadership consistent with Alpha Beta’s philosophy.
Ensuring seamless delivery of all services to a high standard in line with Alpha Beta’s brand standard.
Finance and Business Operations
Provide oversight for Finance and Business operations and ensure efficiency through regular audits and consistently looking for new ways to increase revenue and reduce costs.
Ensure that effective systems are in place to collect revenue from clients and reduce bad debt
Supervise the work of the Finance Committee
Work with the finance team to develop annual budgets for approval by the board
Periodically review expenditure and procurement procedures to prevent wastage and leakage
Staff and Student Management
Ultimately responsible for overall staff support and supervision
Ensure the safety and well-being of all students and employees under the school’s jurisdiction
Ensure adherence to student disciplinary policies and standards of conduct
Work with the HR team to ensure effective recruitment and retention of talent as well as periodic staff training and continuous professional development.
Ensure that we maximize student capacity by exploring various means of marketing the brand and recruiting students
Curriculum Management
Work with the Academic Management team to ensure the highest standards of content delivery, monitoring and evaluation are carried out.
Oversee and implement decisions to move forward on any curriculum upgrades and/or changes based upon the pedagogical vision of the school Community
Represent the school to all of its constituents including staff, parents, students and the broader community where applicable.
Manage the sometimes competing demands and interests of the various stakeholders of the school.
Monitor and address emergent school community issues in a timely manner.
Governance
Act as an advisor to the Board including bringing to the attention of the Board matters and data as are appropriate to keep the Board fully informed to meet its responsibilities. This includes financial information, appropriate updates on infrastructure, HR, clients and external relations as well as any suggested strategies for improving the institution.
Sustain open communication with the Board’s leadership through periodic reports and attendance at Board meetings
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors that may be required to meet the ongoing needs of the school.
Legal/Compliance:
Ensure the school conducts its affairs in a manner congruent with all statutes of the law.
Represent the school in its relations with state agencies, national educational organizations and accrediting agencies.
Ensure that all statutory commitments of the school are fulfilled in a timely manner
Infrastructure.
Ensure that safe and appropriate infrastructure, furniture and equipment is available for use by staff and students
In consultation with the Board, procure any additional infrastructure, furniture or equipment required to run the school successfully.
Oversee grounds and maintenance works in the school.
