Description
Job Purpose
To operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot boiler systems and associated equipment to ensure the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted supply of steam and hot water for production and facility operations while complying with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Boiler Operations
- Operate boilers and auxiliary equipment safely and efficiently.
- Start up, shut down, and monitor boiler systems according to established procedures.
- Monitor steam pressure, temperature, water levels, fuel consumption, and other operating parameters.
- Adjust boiler controls to maintain optimal operating conditions.
- Ensure continuous and reliable steam supply to production processes.
Equipment Monitoring and Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of boilers, pumps, valves, pipelines, and related equipment.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, leaks, or abnormal operating conditions.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on boiler equipment.
- Assist maintenance personnel during major repairs and shutdowns.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards within the boiler house.
Water Treatment and Quality Control
- Monitor boiler water quality and ensure proper water treatment procedures are followed.
- Conduct routine water testing and record results.
- Maintain appropriate chemical dosing levels to prevent scaling and corrosion.
- Ensure compliance with water treatment standards and operating guidelines.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct pre-startup and operational safety checks.
- Ensure all safety devices, alarms, and controls are functioning properly.
- Report unsafe conditions and participate in corrective actions.
- Follow permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures when required.
Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate boiler operation logs and maintenance records.
- Record fuel consumption, operating parameters, inspections, and incidents.
- Prepare shift reports and communicate equipment status during handovers.
- Report breakdowns, abnormalities, and maintenance requirements promptly.
Energy Efficiency and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor fuel and energy consumption and recommend efficiency improvements.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing utility costs and improving boiler performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement and cost-saving projects.
- Assist in achieving departmental operational targets.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Boiler uptime and availability.
- Steam supply reliability.
- Fuel consumption efficiency.
- Compliance with safety procedures.
- Number of boiler-related incidents or breakdowns.
- Water quality compliance.
- Maintenance completion rate.

Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Technical Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Boiler Operations, Utilities Management, or a related field.
- Certified Boiler Operator License (where applicable) is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience operating industrial boilers in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with steam generation systems, water treatment, and utility equipment.
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of boiler operations and steam generation systems.
- Understanding of water treatment processes.
- Ability to read gauges, meters, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
- Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
